fuck you, mr. curfew

this police state we're living in is starting to really cramp my style. i wonder how much longer i'll have to endure.

civil liberty, je t'aime avec tout mon coeur.

that is all.

made it into nola today...

so i got into new orleans today to check out my house. it was a lot better than i expected. still, it was weird being in an almost totally lifeless city. the dry parts didnt smell too bad (except for my fridge...i'll spare you the fridge pics and all the pics of my roof). the parts that flooded smelled like low tide at a beach that just happens to sit right next to a refinery.

when i got to my house, i rejoiced that it wasn't looted, and my fish was still alive!!! i put some fresh bottled (and hopefully oxygenated) water in the tank so that he might survive another week or so until i can get back.

i also moved my fridge outside because it was ungodly foul...the kind of smell where you're gagging before you even have the chance to register that you've smelled something bad.

anyway, on to the eye candy

***EDIT***
images should be working now...

crossing my fingers...

if all goes according to Bazooka Nagin's plan, i should be able to go back to my house friday after next (the 23rd). if i have power by then and the water is at least safe to bathe in, i'll probably move back despite the dusk-til-dawn curfew.

it's gonna be weird...

i'm thinking i might take a few weekend trips to alleviate the boredom.

where/who am i again?

i'm in boulder at the moment. will probably leave soon to go either back to baton rouge or to NYC or LA for a quick trip (since i have nothing better to do and nowhere else to go).

if anyone in nola wants to see an unofficial flood map, this company made a nice one using google maps. click on an area of town and a popup comes up and tells you the approximate flood water height at that location. luckily my house is in a "0.0 feet" area. many of my friends and their families were not so fortunate.

i've had quite a large outpouring of offers of support from a lot of my friends, coworkers, and family. i want to thank you all for your concern and generosity. i am fortunate enough to still have a job and family to stay with, so i think i'll be ok for the time being.

i think the stress of all of this has finally caught up with me. for the past couple of days i've felt slightly feverish, jittery, and my stomach feels like it's constantly turning. hopefully it will pass.

more updates...

still in baton rouge. can't find any gas. was going to try to get down to my parents' house this weekend but can't get in touch with them and don't want to go without enough gas.

my email is down because the server it was hosted on is in my house in nola (i hope) and possibly under water. my new temporary email address is ryan.defelice (at) gmail.

old cds and pickup lines

so i was going through some old cds, and i came across chemical brothers - life is sweet remixes. i'm amazed at how something they did in ~1997 can still be so good and probably considered 'progressive' by anyone who doesn't immediately recognize it. immense respect to chem. bros.

best pickup line of the night:
wow. you weren't fucking around when you bought that shirt.

that is all.

silly me...

i should know better than to go out when i'm totally over my fun quota for the weekend.

especially when the source of my over-abundance of fun is nowhere to be found.

and no, as much as it sounds like it, i'm not talking about drugs or any of that rot.

also, for your viewing pleasure, here is a picture of a wicked storm front that i had the pleasure of getting wet in as it came over the lake into the city a few weeks ago.

to all of my dear friends:

finally my feelings have been summed up in a simple flash program.

PS: for those of you who are confused, you have to press the color bars for it to do its thing.

34 hours later....

the tree branch lodged in the power lines across the street has been removed and my fucking power is finally back. last night was sticky and not in a good way.

lessons learned:
1) oak trees + wind + power lines = explosions that sound a lot like gun shots
2) sitting on the front porch with a wet rag and wiping yourself down every few minutes may seem like a very white trash thing to do, but boy does it keep you cool
3) erm...there is no 3

stupid tropical storm

my power just went out...probably for the night. wonder how long my batteries will last.

went to twiropa. music was almost as good, crowd was almost as absent.

went to the dervish. weird crowd was there, music was horrid.

went to the hi-ho. music was ok, crowd was non-existent.

went to shiloh. crowd was great, music was great, but they were closing down 20 mins after we got there.

went to snake & jake's. crowd, bad. music, laughable.

i just can't win.

tomorrow i am going to the beach.

TLAs

i'm so friggin sick of three letter acronyms that i think i might vomit.

what ever happened to coming up with new words for things? i mean really, if it takes three words to describe something that is referred to often, then it's time to come up with a name for it. the english language will never be complete. why aren't there more additions to it? the french don't seem to have a problem coming up with new words for their language. they even PAY people to do it.

ok...i think i'm done. glad i got that out of my system.

also, this is quite possibly one of the lamest journal entries ever. sorry.

going out late

it's kinda funny when you wait until 4:30 to go out. once you get out, everybody is obliterated and it's kinda funny to watch. but then you get drunk yourself and stay out til 8am and you feel like a hypocrite.

damnit... *shakes fist*
